BIKING IS THE ONLY WAY

Gammel profil My perspective

Here it comes the last tour of my internship. What a better way to end my experience than cruising around town on a designer bike? Just to remind me how the urban bicycle culture plays such a central role in everyone’s life here in Copenhagen… After having lived in this beautiful city for one year, even for me coming from Italy biking has become more vital than having my daily pasta!   😛

I joined the MUST SEE tour at Cycling Copenhagen where they divided us into two groups as we were over 20 people. This is a good sign as it means they care to offer a more intimate experience to all their customers. My guide was Oliver, a very laidback guy who was born here in Copenhagen, of course, but has travelled extensively. He was very entertaining and knowledgeable about his own cultural roots.

As you can guess from the name of the tour, it was orientated towards the more classical sightseeing. At the same time, though, it had a good mix of local and urban stories. We started out from their little office in Westend, Copenhagen’s old red-light district, and headed to the Meatpacking area. Oliver told how Copenhagen developed into the neighborhoods of Vesterbro, Osterbro and Norrebro.  From there we continued with the more traditional downtown bike tour taking us all the way to the Little Mermaid – a ‘must see’ of course!

We rode over 12 kilometers but none of us were tired in the end.  The beautiful scenery of the canals and the harbor made us lose track of time!

I have to thank the Active Copenhagen partners for giving me the unique chance to try all these tours and become more familiar with the Danish urban culture.
